What Is the Life of a Laser Printer?
The longevity of a laser printer depends on how durably it was manufactured and whether it was used and maintained according to the manufacturer's specifications.
-
Duty Cycle
-
Duty cycle is the maximum number of pages per month that should be printed. Exceeding the duty cycle will shorten the life of the printer. Many printers can provide reports of usage or they may have counters.
Expected Page-Production Life
-
Most printer manufacturers provide the expected page-printing output total (expected page-production life) for the entire life of the printer.
-
Mean Time Between Failure
-
Mean time between failures (MTBF) is an important measure of any electromechanical device. While under warranty the manufacturer must replace a defective unit. Purchasing an extended warranty may be desirable.
