Forced air heating systems are popular throughout North America because of their ability to generate both warm and cool air to keep a constant temperature in a building.
In order to operate correctly, a forced air heating system requires warmed air to be blown by a fan through a series of ducts until a desired temperature is obtained. Forced air systems do not rely on the natural movement of heat to distribute air evenly throughout the rooms within a building.
A thermostat is used to monitor the temperature within a building, and when the desired temperature of the occupants of the building is not reached the thermostat starts the operation of the heating system. Air from the rooms of the building is pulled into the heating system through a return to be warmed in the furnace.
The air from the building is passed into a metal chamber where it is heated by the energy created by a furnace. The warmed air is then forced through ducts back to the rooms of the building, with the process repeated until the desired temperature is reached by the thermostat.
