What Is Windows Defender Pro?
Actual product names, Windows Defender and Defender Pro, were combined to create "Windows Defender Pro" to deceive consumers. This form of malware can threaten computer software by delivering automatic downloads of viruses with just one click of the mouse.
-
The Facts
-
"Malware" describes threatening software programs, including security software, rogue anti-virus or "scare-ware." Behaving like a legitimate security software warning, Windows Defender Pro sends the message that your computer has been infected and requires your immediate attention. It offers to assist you, claiming you have ineffective software, and then asks for your payment information.
Warning
-
When a pop-up, instant message or email comes from an unknown source -- warning that without its product you may be at risk -- proceed carefully. Windows Defender Pro and others programs claim to offer a solution, but whether you purchase their products or not, once you click on the message, the virus may download automatically.
-
Prevention/Solution
-
Help your computer programs and information safe by keeping your software up to date and avoiding unknown websites. Many legitimate products offer update reminders to keep your computer running properly. If you suspect that your computer has been infected, contact the manufacturer of your security software for help.
