Honda: What Does EX and DX Mean?

Honda: What Does EX and DX Mean? thumbnail
Honda designates its vehicles with EX or DX.

Although most Honda automobile models are available as an EX or DX, those letters do not stand for specific words. They simply signify a car's luxury level and price.

  1. DX Features

    • DX is the most basic level of Honda available. What the letters "DX" stand for, however, is a mystery. According to Brandon Moulton, Internet salesman at Curry Honda Dealership in Chicopee, Massachusetts, the letters essentially suggest the vehicle's standard features. A DX generally has power windows, power and tilt steering, cup holders, manual adjusting driver's seat, reclining front seats, fold-down rear seat backs, rear window defroster and 12-volt power outlet but no radio.

    EX Features

    • EX models are loaded with standard features. They boast all the DX features plus air conditioning, premium AM/FM/compact disc audio system with six speakers, MP3 player, universal serial bus (USB) port, power door locks with auto-lock feature, cruise control, tilt and telescopic steering column, steering wheel mounted controls, remote trunk release, floor mats, dual-vanity mirrors, one-touch moon roof, engine immobilizer, interior air filtration and 16-inch alloy wheels.

    Cost

    • The standard features of Honda EX models affect their price. Honda vehicles designated as EX cost more than Honda's DX models.
