What Is a Clear Blue Texas Car Title?

A title document proves who owns a vehicle. Texas clear blue title is the original title you receive in Texas at the time you purchase a vehicle or when you add or delete a lien holder or second owner. The title document is blue, clear title means there are no lien holders at the time.

  1. Title

    • Each state uses different colors for their title document. Texas uses a blue die-stamped color for their title. The title contains the year, make, model and vehicle identification.

    Title Transfers

    • When you add, delete or transfer car ownership, the new owner must file an application for Texas certificate of title, Form 130-U, signed by the current owner with the local Texas county tax office reflecting the change in ownership. There is a fee that must be paid at the time the Form 130-U is filed. Check with your local tax office for the exact fee amount.

    Vehicle Transfer Notification

    • The former vehicle owner should also file a vehicle transfer notification with the county tax office notifying them they no longer own the vehicle so they are relieved from liability for tickets and toll road charges that occur after the vehicle sale.
