Dual Xeon Vs. Pentium

Intel Corporation designs its Pentium personal computer chips as dual-core processors, or chips with two processing units. The Pentium's non-consumer market equivalent are the dual-core processors under the Intel Xeon lineup.

  1. Clock Speed

    • Each Intel processor, or central processing unit, has a clock speed, which is the rate at which it completes a processing cycle. The Intel Pentium has a clock speed range of 1.6 GHz to 3.73 GHz. While Xeon dual-core processors have the same clock speed peak, the slowest Xeon chip is faster than the Pentium's slowest chip at 1.86 GHz.

    Bus Speed

    • The bus speed of a CPU represents the rate at which it makes its data transfers. While the Xeon dual-core processors and the Pentium share a peak of 1,066 MHz, the former's 667-MHz low surpasses the latter's 533 MHz. Moreover, the Xeon has dual-core processors that can do 2.5 and 5.86 billion transfers per second, respectively.

    Power Dissipation

    • The Intel Pentium has a power dissipation range of 65 to 130 watts. While some Intel Xeon dual-core processors are more power efficient and go as low as 38 watts, others are less energy conserving with a peak of 150 watts.
