The NCEA provides informative materials online and distributes a monthly, electronic newsletter, "NCEA E-News." The material highlights the practices, trends and legislative initiatives being discussed on elder abuse. The NCEA also provides an electronic forum, the NCEA Elderabuse Listserve, to professionals needing assistance on the discussion topic of elder abuse.
Types

The NCEA has identified several types of elder abuse, including physical, financial and emotional abuse. Physical elder abuse has been defined as a use of force that threatens or physically injuries a vulnerable elderly person. Emotional elder abuse has been defined as a verbal attack or threat that may cause emotional distress to an elderly person.

The NCEA states that elder abuse can happen to any elder at any time and the abuse can be by any individual, including family. Some risk factors identified by the NCEA include mental health and substance abuse issues by those caring for the elderly. Isolation is another contributing factor.
