The card ejection trick is easy to do and simple to learn.

Magic is a great icebreaker for parties or even at a bar to help attract someone's attention. The card ejection trick is a magic staple that can be learned by even the amateur.

  1. Apparatus

    • You need a deck of cards, two-sided tape and a rubber band. Tape one end of the rubber band to the top front edge of one card and the bottom to the back top edge of another. When you prepare the deck, make sure the taped cards on top of each other.

    The Trick

    • Have a member of the audience pick a card randomly from the deck. Making sure to keep the taped cards hidden. Tell the audience member to pick from the back since you have already seen the bulk of the cards in the front. Once the audience member has chosen the card, show it to the audience and then place back in the deck so that it is between the taped cards. The card will stretch the rubber band and create tension. Hold deck tightly so the card doesn't shoot out. Slowly release the pressure and the card will eject from the deck.

    Considerations

    • The tape and rubber band are not always reliable. Make sure the rubber band isn't frayed and the tape has plenty of stick. Also, you can control the tension of the card by how strongly you hold the deck together. A slow release will cause the card to slowly emerge, while a fast release will cause it to shoot out.
