Tallow is the pure fat that remains after suet or animal fat, usually beef or mutton, has been rendered, or melted in water in order to remove impurities. The resulting fat is solid at room temperature and used in candlemaking, soapmaking and cooking. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Room Temperature

    • Tallow is solid at room temperature and can be stored in a covered container. It will become rancid quickly if it is not completely free of impurities or if it is kept at high temperatures for long periods.

    Refrigerator

    • Tallow can be stored in a covered container in the refrigerator for up to two months.

    Long-Term

    • Tallow can be stored for up to a year in the freezer in an airtight container.
