Ford V-10 History

Ford's V-10 engines are primarily seen in their pickup trucks. Ford's version of the V-10, the Triton, is available with either two or three valves.

  1. Time Frame

    • Although V-10 engines have been around since the mid-1980s, Ford did not start putting them into their trucks until 1997. The V-10 is a complex engine, and Ford took extra time to correctly design the Triton. V-10 engines first appeared in Ford's 1997 F-Series pickup trucks and E-Series vans.

    Two-Valve V-10

    • Ford's E-Series vans, F-Series pickup trucks and Excursion SUVs have two-valve V-10 engines. This version of the engine has a cast-iron motor block, fuel injection and two aluminum cylinder heads. The engine was first manufactured at Ford's Windsor, Ontario, Canada engine plant in 1997.

    Three-Valve V-10

    • The three-valve version of Ford's V-10 engine is available as an option in F-Series trucks built after 2005. This motor is assembled at Ford's engine plant in Essex, Ontario, Canada.
