Can You Glue Rubber to Rubber Cement?

Can You Glue Rubber to Rubber Cement? thumbnail
Rubber cement is best used for projects such as scrapbooking.

The name "rubber cement" can be misleading, since rubber is not the best surface to use the cement on. Rubber cement is a liquid adhesive best known for its ability to stick quickly and easily to paper surfaces.

  1. Qualities

    • Rubber cement comes in liquid form, and can be removed without damaging the surface it adheres to, unlike many other types of glue. Rubber cement is thin, dries clear and does not soak through or become absorbed into the adhered surface, as do gel-type glues.

    Uses

    • Rubber cement works well on paper crafts, such as scrapbooking, cardmaking and stationery design. It will not wrinkle the paper like gel glues, and can be adhered easily to the backs of photographs.

    Considerations

    • Because rubber cement is thin, light and easily removed, it does not adhere well to heavier surfaces, such as ceramic, tile, wood, metal and rubber. Select a stronger adhesive for projects involving these materials.
