Famous Rose Gardens
-
Rose gardens attract tourists from all over the world, from Australia to Slovakia. Most every state in the U.S. claims at least one public garden devoted exclusively to the rose.
Geography
-
The American Rose Society suggests that potential rose gardeners use the USDA hardiness zones map to choose the best rose species for their particular climate. Gardeners in the western United States can also use the Sunset zone map, which further breaks down local climate information.

General Characteristics
-
Roses from most species prefer eight to 10 hours of sunlight a day, plenty of water and rich soil. Mulching around the base of each rose plant helps the soil hold in moisture. Fertilize with a slow-release fertilizer to encourage vigorous, healthy growth.
Rose Garden Designs
-
Gardeners use a variety of rose garden designs depending on personal preference. Some rose gardens feature roses selected to emphasize a specific color scheme, while others pair roses with herbs or flowers specially selected to attract butterflies. Other designs utilize traditional aspects of Japanese, Italian or English culture in the design through the use of sculptures, fountains and rock gardens.
