When to Put Hummingbird Feeders Out in Indiana
Ruby-throated hummingbirds, the only species of hummingbird to visit feeders in Indiana, arrive in the springtime. You'll want to put your feeders out right before the birds arrive. The beautiful birds spend most of the summer in the state before migrating south for the winter. Does this Spark an idea?

Southern
-
In southernmost areas of Indiana, the small winged creatures start showing up at feeders from mid to late March. Hanging your hummingbird feeder full of sugar water in the second week of March gives any early arrivals a much-needed food resource.
Northern
-
The northern part of Indiana starts to see the arrival of hummingbirds from the first part of April through the middle of the month. Hummingbird feeders should be placed outside the last week of March to make sure any early birds can access the food.

Arrival
-
Male ruby-throated hummingbirds arrive first to stake out the best territories, which they will use to attract females. Female hummingbirds arrive later when more food is available. The available food, in addition to the feeders, helps the females prepare to nest and lay eggs.
