Long-Term Disability Reimbursement Agreements
Long-term disability agreements include private group disability insurance plans and government social security disability insurance (SSDI, or more commonly SDI). Your group disability plan benefits will be reduced by the amount of SDI benefits you receive.

Group Disability Plans
-
Long-term group disability plans pay employees who are qualified as disabled. Most group long-term disability plans require the disabled employee to reimburse the insurance company for paid benefits they receive from SDI.
Social Security Eligibility
-
Eligibility for SDI requires that your injury last for at least one year or more, or that the injury result in death. The injury must be on the SDI-approved disability medical conditions list. The number of years work test must be met. For example, anyone disabled under age of 28, must have worked one-and-one-half years prior to becoming disabled. Anyone 50 years of age must have worked seven years prior to becoming disabled. To receive benefits, you must apply by telephone, in person or online by completing an application for Social Security benefits and the disability report with the local social security office. Approvals may take up to two years so apply immediately after you become disabled.
