UL Standard for Heating Elements

UL is an international provider of product safety certification and compliance solutions. It has developed a set of standards governing heating elements.

Scope

The standard applies to sheathed heating elements used in appliances and equipment in compliance with the regulations governing such appliances and equipment. It also applies to elements with a rating of 600 volts or less.

Contents

The standard provides information on construction, which includes details on insulation and spacing. It also provides information on performance, including the power input test, the resistance to moisture test, the temperature test, and the thermal endurance test.

Non-Applicability

It is important to note that these standards only apply to heating elements that are used in non-hazardous locations. Elements used in hazardous locations as defined by the National Electric Code (NFPA 70) are not covered by this standard.
