Laws on Backyard Pools
Having a backyard swimming pool is one of many ways to beat the summer heat and stay in shape at the same time. Backyard pool owners should implement as many safety precautions as they can regarding their pool to help ensure a relaxing day doesn't turn into a tragic incident. Does this Spark an idea?
-
The Fence
-
Backyard pools are required to be enclosed by either a fence or a wall on all sides. The height of the pool enclosure depends on the municipality guidelines, as does the material that can be used. Enclosures should be kept in good working order and never have a hole or space within them that a child could slip through.
Added Safety
-
Backyard pool owners who opt to use a pool safety cover must ensure that the cover meets the requirements of the American Society for Testing Materials. One such requirement created by ASTM is weight. All approved pool covers must be strong enough to hold at least 485 lbs., or roughly two adults and one child.

Permits
-
Before installing a backyard swimming pool, residents should check local laws to see if a permit is required. Permits are required depending on the depth of the pool itself. Permits may also be required to construct the enclosure around the pool if the enclosure exceeds a certain height.
