Kentucky Scooter Registration Laws
Kentucky scooter drivers must meet all state requirements before they may drive their scooters on state roads. While certain scooters must be registered before being driven in the state, others are exempt from registration.
-
Types
-
Kentucky divides all scooters into two categories. Scooters that have a 50 cubic centimeter engine must be registered with the state and are considered motorcycles for licensing and registration purposes. All scooters with an engine size of less than 50cc are not eligible for registration in the state.
Considerations
-
Large scooters that are titled and registered may be driven on all public roads and highways in the state, so long as the driver holds a valid driver's license. Scooters with a 49cc or smaller engine may only be driven on neighborhood roadways, where the speed limit is 30 miles per hour or less.
-
Warning
-
Kentucky law does not allow for any size scooter to be titled without a registration. All owners of scooters with a 50cc or larger engine must register their vehicle at a local county clerk's office or through the scooter dealership at the time of purchase.
