Executive Protection Training in VA

Executive Protection Training in VA thumbnail
Executive protection training includes preparatory instruction for the Virginia concealed weapons exam.

Several licensed schools operate executive protection training programs in Virginia, and, because of their location, work closely with the U.S. government and the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services. Training programs are designed to meet the demands of providing protection for dignitaries, executives and high-net worth individuals.

  1. Comprehensiveness

    • Executive protection training incorporates standard operating procedures and protocols for personnel safety with additional instruction in the primary, secondary and tertiary methods of protection for high-risk clients. The subject matter covered includes offensive and defensive driving techniques, high-speed evasion, tactical weapons training, sabotage theory, terrorism awareness, assassination prevention and threat extermination. In Virginia, training extends to preparatory instruction in acquiring a state-issued concealed weapons permit and outside the continental United States country briefings to prepare security personnel for work abroad.

    Prerequisites

    • Although entry requirements vary among training providers, many employers seek potential hires with former law enforcement or military experience. Also, an accredited associate's or bachelor degree program in criminal justice adequately prepares many candidates to receive additional training for specific jobs within the field of security, such as executive and dignitary protection.

    Licensing

    • Forty three U.S. states, including Virginia, require bodyguards and security personnel have formal licensing. Employers of executive protection officers often follow their own vetting protocols and perform their own background checks on job candidates.
