IEC Standard for a Transformer

The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is responsible for setting international standards for electrical, electronic and related technologies, including transformers.

  1. History

    • The IEC standard for a transformer, formally entitled IEC 60076-8, effectively cancels and replaces the former standard, entitled IEC 60606. The first edition of the current standard was released in 1997.

    Contents

    • The standard contains detailed information on the service characteristics of different transformer connections and the designs of magnetic circuits. It also provides service information on parallel operation of transformers, voltage calculation and system fault currents, among other topics.

    Purchase Information

    • The standard is available for purchase from the IEC Web store. The cost for a hard copy is CHF250 (about US$257 as of 2010). The cost for a downloadable file is CHF275 (about $US284). The standards are available in English, French and Spanish. There is also an application guide available free of charge.
