What Is Verizon SSID? thumbnail
An SSID identifies a particular wireless network.

Wireless routers, including those sold by Verizon as part of their services, identify their particular network with a service set identifier (SSID). This allows users to find their home network when there are multiple wireless signals in the area.

  1. Default SSID

    • All wireless routers ship with a default SSID, depending on who manufactured the unit. Those sold by Verizon have this information on a sticker on the bottom of the router itself.

    Changing SSID

    • You can change your router's SSID by accessing your router's control panel. To do this, you must be plugged into the router through an ethernet cord and type "192.168.1.1" into a web browser while connected.

    SSID Security

    • Network professionals recommend that you change your SSID at regular intervals to increase your network's security.
