Is the Toyota Warranty Transferable?

Toyota provides transferable warranties on their vehicles, but the limitations of the warranties should be known before purchasing or selling your automobile. The state that you reside in and the year and mileage of the Toyota vehicle play a role in your ability to transfer the warranty to the next owner.

Used Toyota Warranty

A Toyota certified used vehicle warranty includes a seven-year or 100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty and a seven-year or 100,000 mile 24-hour roadside assistance warranty. Both warranties will transfer to subsequent owners, but the warranty coverage date calculation begins from the date of the vehicle's original purchase from a Toyota dealership.

New Toyota Warranty

New Toyota vehicles have a three-year or 36,000-mile comprehensive warranty, a five-year or 60,000-mile warranty and a roadside assistance contract. When the first vehicle owner sells the automobile with the new warranty coverage still in effect, all three warranties will transfer to the new owner with no additional costs.

Warranty Transfer Limitations

The used Toyota certified vehicle transferable warranties are not available in Puerto Rico or Hawaii. Warranty transfers in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina consist of a different warranty coverage. In these states, the date calculation for the roadside assistance and the seven-year or 100,000-mile limited powertrain coverage begins on January 1 of the year of the vehicle.
