Menthol contains naturally soothing properties.

Menthol ointment can prevent and treat minor skin irritations such as cuts, scrapes, itching and minor burns. It temporarily relieves itching and pain in the affected area.

  1. Treatment For Burns

    • Types of burns that can be treated with menthol ointment include windburn, sunburn, minor scalds and heat rash. For severe burns, your doctor may prescribe a stronger topical treatment along with pain medication .

    Treatment

    • Gently wash the burned area and pat dry or air dry. Apply a thin coat to the affected area. Thoroughly wash the affected area. Continue use while symptoms persist, as your doctor recommends, or follow the ointment instructions.

    Warning

    • Check with your doctor before using menthol ointment. Inform your doctor of any side effects, such as hives, tightness in the chest and difficulty breathing. Menthol ointment is for external use only. Keep it away from your eyes, nose and mouth. If the ointment gets into any of these areas, wash with cold water immediately.
