    • The sauna concept was developed centuries ago by the original peoples of Finland. Hot-rock saunas were used to relieve the elderly from pain and kill viruses while also serving spiritual purposes. Saunas evolved throughout time as sweat lodges and bath houses, coming into its modern form in the late 1960s.

    Benefits

    • Energy expenditure is at the root of the dry sauna's health benefits. As the body heats up, bacteria and virus multiplication is inhibited, much like when a fever kills a brewing illnesses. While the cardiovascular system pumps blood at an accelerated rate, calories are burned and muscles are loosened. This increased stimulation creates a sense of relaxation and well-being.

    Precautions

    • Consult a doctor before using a sauna if you have high blood pressure or heart problems. Alcohol and medicine should be avoided within 24 hours of usage. Limit your sauna session to no more than 20 minutes and make sure to hydrate afterwards.
