What Is an Audio Tweeter?
Audio tweeters help to improve the sound of an audio system by their ability to produce higher frequencies of the sound spectrum better than normal range speakers.

Signal Frequency
-
A sound wave is divided into a spectrum of several different frequencies. Crossover components help to filter certain frequencies so that each frequency is directed toward a speaker that is most suitable for producing the best quality sound for that specific frequency. Tweeter speakers are able to reproduce higher frequencies than larger speakers by virtue of their design.
Types
-
There are commonly three different types of tweeter speakers. Cones have a limited dispersion pattern, although they are the most efficient tweeter speakers available as well as the most economical, according to the Electronix Warehouse. Dome tweeters are used in many home speaker systems and are known for their accuracy and linear response, equating to the widest dispersion pattern available. Horn tweeters are powerful in terms of higher frequency ranges and emit a directional sound.

Materials
-
Tweeter speakers are made from a variety of materials, each with their own characteristics and sound qualities. Materials used include paper, silk, ceramic, metals, titanium and plastics. Paper is known as the most responsive type of tweeter speaker material while composites are the most durable, according to Crutchfield.
