Occupational Safety in Malaysia

The Ministry of Human Resources is a governmental office within the country of Malaysia that is responsible for occupational safety. The Department of Occupational Safety and Health is the Ministry's chief agency that administers and enforces safety guidelines and standards.

DOSH

The Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) has the responsibility of providing a safe and healthy work environment for workers in Malaysia. DOSH's objectives include implementing safe and healthy working systems,ensuring that employees receive the proper safety training, and complying with the regulations and standards of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1994.

NIOSH

The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) is a Malaysian company that establishes occupational health and safety guidelines and standards. Since NIOSH is an independent company and not a government agency, it is not restricted by government bureaucracy for implementing and standardizing work-related safety and health practices.

Training Programs

Occupational safety and health in Malaysia depends on the competency of the managers, supervisors and employees within the workplace. Managers and employees should receive training on safety management systems and required legal compliance in order to make the workplace a safe environment.
