Quick Declutter Tips
The home should be a place of sanctuary and peace. Often that peace is disrupted by the accumulation of keepsakes and dust-collecting items. Following a few simple tips to declutter your home can restore order, making your home clean and aesthetically pleasing. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Take it Slow
-
Allot plenty of time for decluttering, working on one room at a time. Looking at your home as whole might be overwhelming. Decluttering doesn't have to happen overnight. Take your time, tackling one room at a time and taking breaks in between.
Begin with the Bedroom
-
Keep knickknacks to a minimum in the bedroom, as they quickly collect dust. The bedroom is the ultimate place for intimacy and sanctuary. Dressers and nightstands should be relatively clear of knickknacks to minimize dust collection. Clean out closets, getting rid of clothes you haven't worn in a year or more and investing in organizers to regain order.
-
Get Everyone Involved
-
Teach kids responsibility by getting them involved. Establish responsibility by getting each member of the household involved. Create a sorting system to make sure you don't lose track of things that are important. Kid's rooms should be cleaned out once a year, as they quickly out-grow clothes, toys and games.
Throw it Away
-
Throw unusable items away and donate the rest. Ask yourself, "Do I need this?" and if so, why? If you can't find a good reason, chances are, you don't need it. Give unwanted items to Goodwill or the Salvation Army, freeing your home of clutter and helping someone in need.
