Procedures for a Rapid Divorce
Divorce can be an emotionally and financially draining process. Sometimes it can also be a very long process. However, you can do several things to help complete your divorce in a more rapid manner.
-
Documents
-
Make sure that all documents submitted to the court are completed correctly and that all required signatures are on the documents. If you are completing the documents yourself, take the time to read the court rules before completing the documents so that your divorce is not delayed for technical reasons.
Waivers
-
In many states, your spouse may waive service of process by signing an acknowledgment of service. Service of process can takes weeks without a waiver. Additionally, in many cases the "waiting period" required in many states does not begin until your spouse has been served with the complaint and summons.
-
Settlement Agreement
-
If you are able to reach a settlement agreement with your spouse that addresses all of the issues in your divorce, you will save weeks or even months of time. It often takes months to get a court date for a final contested hearing for a divorce in cases where the parties cannot agree. If a settlement agreement is reached, the parties may be able to waive the final hearing all together and simply file the paperwork concluding the proceeding.
