Emerit certification is a Canadian certification process for travel and tourism workers.

Emerit professional certification is a voluntary, Canadian certification program for workers in the travel and tourism industry. It is the highest nationally recognized certification program for travel and tourism workers in Canada. Certification is gained by passing exams and having work experience. Most training is offered online and is self-paced; classroom instruction can be arranged by appointment.

  1. Certificates

    • There are four levels of certification. The tourism essentials certificate for those planning to enter the field or who have little experience; the occupational knowledge certificate is for those with enough knowledge requirements for to hold a job in this field; the occupational experience certificate for those with at least three to four months of on-the-job experience; and the professional certificate is earned after a combination of exams and practical experience.

    Professional Designations

    • Certified Emerit professionals, those that earn the professional certification level, earn the right to add professional designations to their resumes and business cards. Front line employees who achieve certification are entitled to add the tourism certified professional (TCP) designation. Supervisors qualify for the Tourism certified supervisor (TCS) designation and managers are eligible for the Tourism certified manager (TCM) designation.

The training modules for the exam and course cost an additional CAD$85. Travel counselor certification (CITC) costs CAD$375. The study guide for the course and exam costs CAD$85.
