What Can You Grow in Cup Terrariums?
Learning about how plants grow is an important concept for young children to grasp. Demonstrating the change visually, through the use of a cup terrarium, helps students see the progress, rather than just hearing or reading about it.

Function
-
Cup terrariums function as a mini garden. Though small, the basic fundamentals of growth from seed to adult plant are established. Adding gravel to the bottom of the cup, then the soil and finally the seeds or plant cuttings, gives the students the benefit of envisioning how true nature progresses.
Features
-
Almost any small plant can be planted. Herbs, flowers, mosses and even carnivorous plants are simple, but effective plants to grow for scientific observation and fun.
-
Fun Fact
-
To make the cup terrarium fun between the time of planting and growth for young children, have them decorate the inside soil area with small shells or tiny plastic toy animals. Once the cup terrarium begins to grow, the plastic inhabitants will enjoy the new plant world.
