Can You Paint a Porcelain Enamel Stove?

Ordinary latex and acrylic paints are not suited for stoves.

You can paint a porcelain enamel stove as long as you employ the right preparation procedure. Condition the stove using friction-based abrasion techniques, or it will reject its painted finish. Choose a paint specifically manufactured to resist heat and remain resilient in harsh circumstances.

Abrasion

Paint will not adhere to a porcelain enamel stove unless the stove is first abraded. Scour the stove with 180-grit sandpaper before you start the application process, or flaking will inevitably result.

Primer

If you apply paint directly over a bare porcelain enamel stove, it will eventually peel. Prepare the stove by applying a base coat of acrylic latex primer. Once the stove is properly conditioned, it will accept paint.

Paint

Ordinary latex and acrylic paints are not suited for stoves and will bubble and peel under the intense heat. Choose epoxy appliance paint formulated to remain durable in harsh conditions.
