The Ford Model A was the successor to the Model T.

The Ford Model A, produced from 1927 until 1931, was Henry Ford's successful line of cars following the Model T. The 1929 Model A, especially the convertible roadsters and phaetons, are a favorite for hot rodders and car enthusiasts to build into customized show and race cars.

  1. Bodystyles

    • The 1929 Ford Model A came in a wide variety of models and body styles. Two-door models featured the business coupe, convertible cabriolet, roadster, sport coupe and a Tudor sedan. Four-door models included the Deluxe Fordor sedan, Fordor Leatherback sedan, Fordor Steelback sedan, Town sedan and the Phaeton. The Model A was also built as a four-door station wagon and a taxicab.

    Model A Interior

    • The 1929 Model A featured only basic amenities, with standard artificial leather seats and a hand-operated windshield wiper. The instruments consisted of a speedometer, gas gauge and an ammeter to tell if the electrical system was charging or discharging. A floor-mounted squeeze-grip-type hand brake lever was used. Safety glass windows were standard.

    Technical Specifications

    • The 1929 Model A featured an L-head 200.5-cubic-inch four-cylinder engine. It produced 40 horsepower with a compression ratio of 4.22 to 1. The non-synchronized three-speed gearbox required double-clutching to operate. Semi-elliptical leaf springs provided the suspension. The rear three-quarter semi-floating axle had a spiral bevel differential gears. Its final drive ratio was 3.7 to 1.
