Organic Sugar Vs. Sugar

As the benefits of eating organic foods are becoming more and more pronounced, interest in organic sugar over traditional sugar is forming. The main difference between the two lie in the originating plant from which the sugar is derived. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Difference

    • Sugar is made from either sugar cane or sugar beets. Organic sugar is made from organically grown plants, which are grown without pesticides, herbicides or other chemical aids. Other sugar is not.

    Types

    • Organic sugar comes in the same styles as regular sugar: raw and white. White sugar is refined with phosphoric acid and calcium hydroxide and is pure sucrose. It has less of a taste than raw sugar, which still has impurities that are filtered out in the refinement process.

    Benefits

    • Sugar does not have many nutrients in the first place, which means the nutritional value of organic and regular sugar is the same. The benefit of organic sugar comes from the fact that there is a guarantee that no synthetic chemicals have made it into the batch of sugar. It also ensures that the environment where the plants used to make the sugar were grown was not harmed by any residual chemicals.
