Become certified as an auto air conditioning installer.

An auto air conditioning technician has a variety of tools to test and repair air conditioning units within automobiles. The auto air conditioner will be installed or repaired according to Motor Ventilation and Air-Conditioning (MVAC) standards.

  1. MVAC Training

    • To be certified in auto air conditioning, you need a high school diploma. Afterwards, you can complete an auto air conditioning course approved by the Bureau of Labor Statistics on Heating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (BLSHACR). This MVAC course is for a minimum of six months with a student apprenticeship required for another six months or one year. After you successfully complete the course and apprenticeship in automobile HVAC, you can take the certification exam.

    Auto Air Conditioning Certification Exam

    • The Environment Protection Agency administers the 609 certification examination for auto air conditioning. The exam will test your knowledge of the use of high- and low-pressure refrigerants used in air conditioning. The EPA certification exam has 50 questions and is administered at a national EPA testing center.

    Career Progress and Advancement

    • With certification in auto air conditioning you can be employed as a certified auto air conditioning installer, auto air conditioning engineer or motor air conditioning technician.
