Common Ink-Jet Technology
Ink-jet technology offers near laser printer quality color prints without the cost normally associated with a laser printer. For this reason, it revolutionized the printer industry in the eyes of consumers and small businesses.
-
Identification
-
The most common ink-jet printer technology is the thermal ink-jet technology. Thermal technology controls how the ink is transferred from the cartridge to the nozzles.
Function
-
All ink-jet printers work by creating a bubble of ink that's directed on to the page through tiny nozzles. Unlike other ink-jet printers, thermal ink-jet technology creates this bubble by heating the nozzle. As the nozzle cools, more ink is directed into the nozzle as required to create the next bubble.
-
Disadvantages
-
A major disadvantage of the thermal ink-jet technology is the fact that it requires heat resistant ink and the time between heating and cooling the nozzle slows printing speeds.
