ISO Standards for Tapered Ground Joints

The ISO is the International Organization for Standardization. ISO has developed and published a set of standards governing the design and manufacturing of conically-tapered ground joints.

  1. ISO

    • The ISO works with member organizations to develop internationally-recognized standards for a wide range of businesses and industries. Benefits of standardization include increased safety, increased product reliability, and increased trust between businesses.

    Conically-Tapered Ground Joints

    • Conically-tapered ground joints are pieces of laboratory glassware resembling test tubes that may be joined together by fitting tapered joints of various sizes and shapes. They are governed by ISO standard ISO 383:1976.

    ISO 383:1976

    • This standard provides international guidelines governing the diameter of conical ground joints, their conicity (how tapered they are), their various lengths, and their stress tolerances. It also provides guidelines on peak-to-valley height.
