Model A Ford Coupe Rumble Seat Conversion

Model A rumble seats were popular when new and remain a prized car feature.

The Ford Model A rumple seat was featured on coupes, cabriolets and roadsters. There were some parts variations between the 1928 and 1929 models and the 1930 and 1931 models. Many restored Model A's have the wrong rumble seat parts or the right parts incorrectly assembled.

  1. Conversion Parts

    • Converting a trunk to a rumble seat requires rumble hinges, an inner panel that is curved and a pair of rumble stops. You need to substitute the trunk's inner panel with the curved panel, which braces the spare tire.

    Replacing Parts

    • After removing the trunk hinges, you will attach the pair of rumble lid bumpers and centering pieces that conceals the hinge holes. The 1928 and 1929 Model A's have a different latch than the one featured on the 1930 and 1931 models.

    Parts Variations

    • All years of the Model A cabriolet and the 1928 and 1929 coupes featured the same rumble stops, inner panel and lower rear exterior panel. The 1928 and 1929 and the 1930 and 1931 coupes and roadsters used the same parts except for the lower rear panel. The inner curved panel on roadsters and coupes in 1930 and 1931 were higher and used high rumble stops. On the convex side of the inner panel the iron bracket riveted in place is the same for all years.
