Ramp Length Vs. Trailer Height

Whenever measuring trailer height and ramp length, you must take into account the weight of the object(s) being transferred to make sure the ramp can handle it. Relative heights and lengths between truck and loading dock can sometimes be negotiated with a dock-leveler.

Considering Vehicles

On many occasions, these ramps are used for loading or unloading vehicles. Therefore, you always want to ensure that the ramps -- as related to the trailer height -- are the adequate length. If they are too short, then you risk damage to the rear of the vehicle, whether it be a motorcycle, ATV or forklift.

Normal Features

Most models of dock levelers will be able to show some flexibility. Besides the ramp, the other critical features of the leveler are the lips; those elements that will actually attach the ramp to the trailer and/or the loading zone. You should be able to firmly couple the lips of the ramp with any connecting body in order to safely proceed.

The Hydraulic Type

One way to add an adjustable option is to purchase a hydraulic dock-leveler. The height of these ramps can then be altered by the "touch of a button" in order to accommodate more delivery or shipping situations. It should be said that the maintenance of one of these ramps could be considerable as they contain more intricate features.
