Microscope Identification

Microscopes can reveal details that are invisible to the human eye.

A microscope is a scientific instrument that enables you to see magnified versions of different samples. Basic models provide magnification of 10 to 40 times actual size. High-powered microscopes kept at universities and research facilities have magnifications over 1,000 times.

Looking at Slides

Glass slides are used to view items under a microscope. Premade slides contain a variety of specimens and are labeled to let you know what you are looking at. You can create your own slides using things like hair and skin samples or samples taken from outdoors.

Identifying Objects

Objects look different at different levels of magnification. Certain patterns exist for similar types of samples such as plant life or liquids. More details will be revealed as you view each sample at a higher power of magnification.

Comparing Samples

Similar patterns are a key to identifying objects with a microscope. The more samples you view under the microscope, the easier it will be to recognize the different features of different types of samples.
