Analysis of the Role of a Nurse

Analysis of the Role of a Nurse thumbnail
Nurses focus on the personal care of patients.

Nurses provide a first point of contact for the patient, looking after their personal needs rather than focusing on their illness, which is more the concern of a doctor.

  1. Patient Care

    • Caring for the patient's everyday needs is an integral part of nurse's job. This can include making sure they eat well, get enough fluids and receive their medicine on time, helping them go to the toilet or shower and making sure that they are comfortable and safe.

    Education

    • Nurses are also responsible for educating and their families about better health, lifestyle changes and general well-being.

    Organization

    • Nurses are responsible for planning and organizing patient care which includes organizing medicine and routine check-ups, keeping records up-to-date and arranging hospital discharges. Nurses also coordinate the care of patients by working closely with and supervising multi-disciplinary teams of staff to see that the planned care is carried out correctly.

    Working With Doctors

    • Nurses work side-by-side with doctors to provide practical help with treating the patient such as administering injections, taking blood samples, checking temperatures and monitoring blood pressure.
