The peace lily is a topical house plant.

Though not a true lily, the peace lily (Spathiphyllum spp) is a tropical house plant enjoyed for its showy white flowers and low-care requirements. Peace lilies act as natural air purifiers, removing toxins such as formaldehyde, benzene and ammonia from the air. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Light

    • Peace lilies can tolerate poor indoor light levels, although cultivars such as Spathiphyllum 'Sensation' prefer bright sunlight coming from the north, east or west. Peace lilies may also be placed outdoors in a partially shaded location such as a porch.

    Soil

    • Grow peace lilies in well-draining, general purpose potting soil. Fertilize every two weeks with a water-soluble fertilizer during the growing season to promote healthy new growth.

    Humidity

    • Peace lilies are tropical plants that love a little additional humidity. Mist plants with a lime-free, warm water to increase humidity. Keep the plant in a location free from cool, drafty air.
