ANSI Valve Standards

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) establishes standards for a variety of products manufactured and distributed in the U.S. Among these standards are those concerning the specifications of different types of valves. They include details on testing, repairs, dimensions and other important issues.

  1. Check Valves

    • Covered under ANSI Standard 594, all types of check valves including butt-welding, wafer, lug and flanged are addressed. The standard provides insight into the specifications of test requirements, covers design, materials, face-to-face dimensions, pressure-temperature ratings and examination.

    Metal Plug Valves

    • This metal plug category of valves includes flanged, welding ends and threaded. Details are provided under ANSI Standard 599 and include sizing, corresponding pipe sizes, port linings, applied hard facings on the body of the valve, body ports and plugs. Lubricated and non-lubricated valves are also considered under this standard.

    Soft-Seated, Quarter-Turn Valves

    • Covered under ANSI Standard 607, this section oversees the testing and evaluation requirements for soft-seat, quarter-turn valves exposed to fire. The standard applies to all classes and sizes of these valves.

    Gas Lift Valves

    • ANSI Standard 11V7 provides guidelines for the testing, repair and setting of gas lift valves. In addition, these standards are applied to reverse flow valves.
