The proper sized needle for your sewing machine affects the quality of your project.

The needles you use on your Singer HD110 can make a huge difference in the way it operates. For optimum performance, use only the needles recommended by the manufacture of your sewing machine. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Lightweight Fabrics

    • For lightweight fabrics, such as batiste, chiffon, silk or crepe, Singer suggests using a type 2020 needle for woven fabrics in a 11/80 size. This is a small needle with a sharp end that won't make unsightly holes in your fine fabric.

    Medium-weight Fabrics

    • For medium-weight woven fabrics, such as cotton, linen, flannel, thin corduroy, muslin or wool crepe, Singer suggests using a type 2020 needle for woven fabrics in a 14/90 size. This needle is heavy duty enough that it will get through the thickness of the fabric easily but won't leave any large holes in the fabric.

    Heavyweight Fabrics

    • For heavyweight fabrics, such as denim, canvas or duck cloth, Singer suggests using a type 2020 needle in either a 16/100 or 18/110 size. These needles are heavy-duty and thick, allowing them to punch through these thick fabrics with ease. If the fabric is very thick or the needle has trouble getting over the fabrics, use a larger size.

    Knit Fabrics

    • Knit fabrics require a different style of needle than woven fabrics so that the yarns of the knit fibers don't run or tear. Signer suggests using a ball-point style 2045 needle in a size appropriate for your knit fabric (such as 11/80, 14/100 or 16/110). For a heavier knit, use a larger sized needle.
