Certified life skills coaches can help a new employee.

According to the Certified Coaches Federation, life skills coaches unearth the hidden potential in many individuals. This may mean helping a recently laid off employee, new divorcee, or even a first time college graduate in need of direction.

  1. Types

    • Unlike psychologists or social workers, life coaches are not licensed by states. Certification designation types are primarily made by a variety of private life coaching education organizations and schools. These may include Certified Life Mastery Coach, Certified Coach Practitioner, or simply Life Coach.

    Time Frame

    • Earning a life coach certification may take as little as a few days, or can extend over the course of an entire four-year college career. Private coaching schools, institutes, and organizations often offer certified coaching intensive courses over very short periods of time.

    Misconceptions

    • Certified life coaches are often confused with licensed mental health or health care professionals. Life coaching is a new, evolving field that involves helping people to be their best. In contrast, mental health and health care providers diagnose, assess, evaluate, and treat illnesses and mental health problems.

    Certification

    • You may have to pass an assessment or evaluation process after attending a life skills coaching workshop, class or program of study. The school or organization will then grant you the certification credential.
