Samsung refrigerator problems jeopardize food safety. Without proper refrigeration many of the foods and beverages found in fridges become unsafe to consume. Refrigeration prevents food-borne bacteria from contaminating consumables and poisoning those who accidentally eat them. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Internal Fan Malfunctions

    • One model of Samsung refrigerator, the RS21, has a problem with temperatures rising due to internal fan malfunctions. The RS21 is designed in such a way that causes the water that drains from the evaporator to ice over the refrigerator's fan. The ice causes the fan to stop working and, therefore, the fridge no longer stays cool.

    Sparking

    • An October 2009 publication by Samsung announced that Samsung refrigerator models RS21 and RS60, built between March 2005 and June 2006, were discontinued due to malfunctions found with internal sparking, or defrosting. Electrical sparks were occurring during defrost operations with these specific models, which posed the potential for fires.

    Noise

    • Samsung refrigerators may emit humming noises, along with vibrations, when the fans are defective or iced over. These two problems can occur simultaneously on Samsung refrigerators or separately at different times.
