Garden Tips on Pansies

Garden Tips on Pansies thumbnail
Pansies thrive in various temperatures.

Pansies are popular flowers to plant in containers, baskets, window boxes and flowerbeds. They are available in an extensive array of colors and are easy to grow in many climates and most types of soil. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Light & Temperature

    • Pansies thrive in partial shade as well as a garden area that receives full sun for most of the day. In warmer climates, they can be planted two or three times a year to provide year-round blooms. Only extreme heat waves can hinder a pansy's health and cause it to wilt. Cutting pansies back during a heat wave and applying mulch to the bed help them retain extra moisture for survival.

    Water

    • The garden soil should be kept moist but not soggy. Daily watering may be necessary during the hottest months.

    Potential Pests

    • Pansies generally resist disease if fertilized every two weeks. If aphids, slugs or snails invade the flowerbed, traditional pest deterrents are recommended.

    Increased Flowering

    • To encourage more abundant and longer flowering, promptly remove dead flower heads from pansies.
