Pansies thrive in partial shade as well as a garden area that receives full sun for most of the day. In warmer climates, they can be planted two or three times a year to provide year-round blooms. Only extreme heat waves can hinder a pansy's health and cause it to wilt. Cutting pansies back during a heat wave and applying mulch to the bed help them retain extra moisture for survival.
