Issues With an HP 5590

The HP ScanJet 5590 is a flatbed scanner that allows users to scan at 48-bit color and 2400 dpi (dots per inch) resolution. It can scan at a speed of eight pages per minute. Just like other devices, however, you may experience issues with your HP 5590 device. Problems may include scanning quality, power issues and error messages among others.

  1. HP 5590 Stops Responding

    • Performing a hard reset on the product will probably solve the problem if the printer stops responding or does not respond at all whenever you try to print a document. Unplug the power cable from the power outlet and disconnect all cables that are connected to the device. Lock the "carriage lock" and then unlock it again. Make sure that the device is placed on a level and flat surface. Reconnect all cables to the device and turn on the scanner. Try scanning a document again.

    TMA Position Error

    • The "TMA Position Error" appears whenever you try to scan negatives or slides using your HP 5590. Ensure that your TMA (Transparent Materials Adapter) cable is properly connected to its port located at the back of the scanner if you are receiving a TMA position error. If the TMA lamp does not go up when the error is displayed, bring the TMA to the nearest HP service center to have it repaired or replaced.

    Unexpected Internal Error

    • Disconnect the USB cable from the device if you are receiving an error that says "An Unexpected Internal Error Has Occurred." Use another USB cable if you have access to one. If this does not solve the problem, connect the USB cable to another USB port in your computer.
