Dwarf ornamental trees and plants make a good choice for small space landscapes. Many varieties bear dense flowers and foliage to make a showy display. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Chinese Dogwood (Cornus Kousa)

    • The Chinese dogwood (Cornus kousa) blossoms with white flowers in early spring into summer. The tree continues to put on a show in fall with bronze foliage and bright red fruits that attract birds and butterflies. Plant Chinese dogwood in a spot that gets partial to full sun and is hardy in United States Department of Hardiness Zones 5 to 8.

    • Train the Japanese maple (Acer palmatum) to grow outdoors as a dwarf or as an ornamental bonsai tree indoors. Its ferny foliage and fall colorings ranging from gold to red make it a favorite specie for growing as a dwarf tree or bonsai.

    Serviceberry (Amelanchier Arborea)

    • Serviceberry (Amelanchier arborea) is a dwarf, ornamental tree that is hardy in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 3 to 7. It produces white blossoms with pink edges in the spring and purple fruit in the fall, along with leaves that change from red to yellow and orange.

    Rose Tree

    • A rose tree is measured by the trunk length, versus its overall height. Roses can be trained or grafted to grow as a rose tree. Rose trees make good landscaping accents to adorn a patio or the entrance to a home. They can grow in a container and moved to adorn various spots in a yard.
