C-TPAT Security Training

C-TPAT is a voluntary initiative involving cooperation between the U.S. government and business, administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The program aims to increase security levels in businesses involved in supplying goods in the U.S., including importers, licensed customs brokers and manufacturers.

  1. Threats

    • Employees are recommended under C-TPAT guidelines to be made aware of the company's threat awareness program operated by security personnel. Perceived threats pinpointed by personnel should be reportable via a procedure each employee of a business is trained in using.

    Shipping/Receiving

    • Members of staff working within shipping and receiving departments should receive additional training specific to their duties. Training should include information on the procedures involved in opening and sorting mail.

    Incentives

    • The Department of Homeland Security recommends providing employees of companies involved in C-TPAT with specialized training in recognizing internal conspiracies and guarding against unauthorized access.
