Facts About the 67 Shelby GT 500

The Shelby Mustang came along within a year of the original Mustang's release. Ford wanted to make the Mustang more competitive, so they sent it to the company owned by Carroll Shelby, a former racecar driver and designer. His adaptations created a lighter, more powerful Mustang.

    Engine

    • The model has a 7,051 cc V-8 iron block engine, which can produce up to 355 brake horsepower and 420 foot-pounds of torque. The car has rear-wheel drive and a four-speed automatic transmission.

    Performance

    • The GT 500 has a top speed of around 133 mph, and can go from zero to 60 mph in just 4.8 seconds. Over the quarter mile, the vehicle clocks in at an average of 106 mph and covers the distance in 13.6 seconds.
