Soil pH
-
Since 'Penny Mac' is a mophead hydrangea, it can turn color based on the soil pH of the planting site. Putting a 'Penny Mac' in acidic soil will get you blue hydrangea flowers, while planting the shrub in neutral or alkaline soil will produce pink flowers.
Planting Zone
-
Like all hydrangeas, the 'Penny Mac' does best in well-draining, rich soil. It may develop root rot if planted in poorly draining soil. The plants aren't drought tolerant, so plan to water hydrangeas with 1 inch of water weekly. These plants do best in partial shade, but can also grow in full sun.
